Berlin has lost a landmark….
I’m sad to say that earlier in the week, Tacheles was finally shut down. It’s been threatened for years, and I never really thought it would actually happen, but it has. The police evicted all residents, and it’s gone. I’ll leave the details up to the news, which you can read here at BBC Online, but I just wanted to post about it to lament its passing. I’ll always remember going to the courtyard bar in the summer and ordering drinks from the bus, wandering around various rooms and finding interesting (and sometimes bizarre) art, and the photo shoot I modelled for there (one of my favourites). Tacheles was part of Berlin’s history, and was a unique tourist attraction, and now that it’s gone, a little bit of Berlin’s soul went with it.
